Football: Oswego Panthers Win Second Round IHSA Playoffs, Headed to Chicago

The Oswego East Wolves fell to the Lincoln-Way East Griffins.

The Oswego Panthers (9-2) showed the Waubonsie Valley Warriors (8-3) that they were not to be intimidated by a history of losses with a winin the second round of the 8A IHSA playoffs.

The first quarter remained scoreless, but in the second quarter senior running back Bryce Holm ran for a 68-yard touchdown, putting Oswego in the lead. 

That was followed quickly by interception returned for a 54-yard touchdown by senior linebacker Sean Graff, setting the Panthers up 14-0. 

The Panthers then scored again with a touchdown pas from Frank to senior wide receiver Trevor Matczak, but missed the extra point. OHS entered the half winning 20-7. 

The Panthers made it 27-7 on a 10-yard touchdown pass to junior tight end CJ Brown following a 40-yard run by Holm. 

They only gave up one more score, with a missed extra point, to the Warriors and also scored once more with a 9-yd touchdown run by Frank with under 4 minutes to go in the fourth.

The Panthers won the game 33-13 and will travel to Chicago to face off against Marist High School (8-3). 

The game will take place on Saturay, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. at Marist High School, 
4200 West 115th Street, Chicago.

Tickets will cost $6 and will go on sale at the Oswego High School Athletic Office on Wednesday at 6:45 a.m. Only 1,500 tickets will be sold total, but there is no limit for how many a student can buy.

A fan bus will be provided for an additional $1 ($7 total). 

Oswego East

The Oswego East Wolves (7-4) season came to an end Saturday afternoon after they lost to the Lincoln-Way East Griffins (9-2).

The Wolves fought throughout the first quarter and took the lead in the middle of the second quarter, 12-10, following a safety and a field goal by senior Jason Evans.

After that though the Wolves were unable to gain any ground against the Griffins. Oswego East lost the ball several times to Lincoln-Way East with a fumble and then a fumble following a return kick-off. 


At half the Wolves were down 12-37. 

The Wolves put up a fight towards the end of the second half, with East's quarterback Tyler Kennedy connecting for several touchdowns.

But the Griffins never let up and ultimately won with a final score of 57-40. 

This was Oswego East's first in the playoffs.
