Fox River Flooding In Montgomery, Area Rainfall Totals

With more rain in the forecast, here's what's happening with local bodies of water as a flood warning takes effect.

MONTGOMERY, IL — A flood watch was in place for Kendall, Will, Grundy and other nearby counties until 3 p.m. Friday as rain continued and more possible storms were in the forecast. A flood warning was in place through 1 p.m. The river had also surpassed flood stage.

According to the National Weather Service, the Fox River in Montgomery was at 13.77 feet, above the flood stage of 13 feet, as of Friday afternoon.

The Fox Waterway Agency has closed the lower Fox River to boat traffic. The northern portion of the Fox River and the Chain O' Lakes are currently listed as "No Wake." The lower portion of the river runs south from the Stratton Dam in McHenry.

The National Weather Service said residents can anticipate moderate to occasionally heavy rain with localized flooding throughout the area. Friday afternoon, storms producing "very heavy rainfall" could develop. There was also a 40 percent chance of showers Friday night.

If you encounter flooded roadways, don't try to drive through the water — it could be deeper than it appears. "Most flood deaths occur in vehicles," the NWS said. "Turn around, don't drown."

As of just before 10 a.m., no local events had been canceled Friday due to the rain. In Yorkville, Summer Solstice Fest was scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Yorkville.

  • Oswego: 2.98 inches
  • Montgomery: 2.55 inches
  • Yorkville: 3.99 inches
  • Naperville: 2.33 inches
  • Plainfield (Will County): 2.6 inches
  • Plainfield (Kendall County): 2.98 inches
  • Romeoville: 2.48 inches
  • Joliet: 3.7 inches
