Man Shouting Racial Slurs Fires Air Rifle At Neighbors: Cops
An African American man and Hispanic woman told police the Montgomery man shot an air rifle towards their home after hurling racial slurs.

MONTGOMERY, IL — A 36-year-old man is facing hate crime charges, as well as charges of aggravated assault and reckless conduct after Montgomery police said he began shouting racial slurs at two neighbors before firing an air rifle at them. Felony charges were approved against Ryan Salsman, 36, after the July 27 incident.
Police said officers responded to the 1800 block of Mulberry Drive on that date for a disturbance call. Witnesses told police that Salsman was shooting an air rifle towards their home and using racial slurs.
Police said witnesses reported that Salsman was making racist remarks when he fired an air rifle towards an African-American man and Hispanic woman who were talking in their driveway.

Following an investigation by Montgomery police and detectives, felony charges were approved by the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
Salsman was already in custody at the Kane County jail when charges were approved, police said.

Kane County records indicate that Salsman was also charged with violating his bail bond, and he was taken into custody Aug. 2.
Bail for all charges was set at $54,200. He is due in court Aug. 9.
