Montgomery Student Collapsed 'For No Apparent Reason'
The 16-year-old was a student at Oswego East High School

The Kane County Coroner announced on Monday that an autopsy had been conducted on Darion Verner, but there are still some tests yet to be completed. The 16-year-old from Montgomery was a junior at Oswego East High School.
The coroner said, according to witnesses, that Verner had played basketball in gym class, went to the locker room and collapsed "for no apparent reason."
The coroner said the determination of the cause of death was pending the results of specialized testing to be completed at a forensic laboratory.

"There were no obvious signs of foul play detected in the preliminary investigation," the coroner said.
The Kane County Coroner conducted the autopsy because Verner was brought to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, in the southeast corner of Kane County.

An online fundraiser for Verner's funeral expenses has raised nearly $9,500 in two days.
"Darion will be remembered for his love of basketball, his love for playing the drums, as a son, as a big brother and as a friend to many," Superintendent Dr. John Sparlin said in a statement. "Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family, friends, and our students."
School staff and the Kendall County Crisis Team will be available to students, their families and staff members for grief counseling.
