MONTGOMERY, IL — Montgomery Trustee Stan Bond has died after recently being diagnosed with cancer, village officials said Wednesday.

"I am deeply saddened today by the passing of our friend, Stan Bond," said Village President Matt Brolley. "As anyone who knew Stan can attest, he fully embodied the qualities of a public servant. His deliberate, thoughtful and responsible leadership was matched only by his joyful sense of humor."

First elected in 2011, Bond served two terms on the village board and focused his energy on civic and neighborhood projects, according to a village news release. He was the chair of the village's beautification committee, organized the repair and painting of village entry signs and started a project that placed more than 50 bluebird houses around the village. He also started the annual Montgomery Fest talent show, served as a neighborhood watch leader and helped to create the Montgomery Foundation, which has built little free libraries around the village, in addition to funding college scholarships and elementary school grants.
