Oswego's CrossTown Challenge: Two Schools, One Cause

Oswego won the matchup 40-0, but OHS, OEHS united to fight breast cancer.

The annual CrossTown Challenge football game features a fierce rivalry between two Oswego teams, but there was one distinct stand-out on the field Friday night: pink sock

For one night, the Wolves and Panthers were united by the color pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Organized by the Oswego Junior Woman’s Club and sponsored by several local businesses, a donation of nearly 200 pairs of pink socks was given to the varsity football teams at Oswego East High School and Oswego High School.

The sponsors for the donation include the following: Oswego Junior Woman’s Club, Emmers Corporation, Kennedy Pointe Restaurant, Committee to Elect Keith Wheeler, Oswego Bears football and cheer and Oswego Youth Tackle Football.

The Oswego Junior Woman’s Club (OJWC) is a subsidiary of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC). It is one of the world’s largest and oldest women’s volunteer service organizations. The GFWC works locally through over 250 Junior clubs and has approximately 8,000 members in the United States. The GFWC members support the arts, preserve natural resources, promote education in various sectors, encourage healthy lifestyles, stress civic involvement and work toward world peace and understanding.

The Oswego Junior Woman’s Club was formed in 2012 as a local charter under GFWC.
