Police Had Prior Contact With Boulder Hill Child's Family: Report

The Kendall County Sheriff's office said officials have not yet determined a cause of death for 6-year-old Kerrigan Rutherford.

MONTGOMERY, IL — Police investigating the death of a 6-year-old girl found unresponsive in her family's Boulder Hill home July 2 said they've had previous contact with the family. In an email to Patch, the Kendall County Sheriff's office said authorities have not yet determined a cause of death for Kerrigan Rutherford, and are working with the Kendall County Coroner's office to gather additional information. An autopsy on the child has been completed, and is pending toxicology reports and results of additional studies, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff’s office added that they've also been working with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) throughout the investigation.

Deputies responded to the home in the 100 block of Boulder Hill Pass around 1:30 p.m., July 2 for a report of a child who was unresponsive and not breathing. Police said the Rutherford was found dead in the home by deputies and the Oswego Fire Department.

Family members of Kerrigan Rutherford appear to have set up a GoFundMe page for the child's funeral costs.

A memorial service for Rutherford will be held on Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Warehouse Church, 308 East Galena Blvd. in Aurora.
