Man Wanted For Murder Captured, Baby Found Unharmed In Montgomery

Authorities responded to the possible sighting of a man wanted for murder in Montgomery.

MONTGOMERY, IL — A man wanted on murder charges in Michigan was taken into custody after a SWAT unit responded to a Montgomery apartment Tuesday morning. An infant in the home with the man was found sleeping and unharmed, sheriff's officials said.

Montgomery police, Kane County Sheriff's deputies and the regional Kane County SWAT unit were on the scene after a reported sighting of the man in the 700 block of Oakton Road in Montgomery Tuesday morning.

Police confirmed the heavy emergency response around 6:45 a.m., saying the sheriff's office was assisting Montgomery police and the U.S. Marshals Service after the apparent sighting of Scott Jones, 35, who police say carried out a fatal shooting in September. SWAT members and crisis negotiators were on scene attempting to negotiate his surrender.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office said Montgomery police initially fielded a domestic call from the apartment and learned that Jones, who is related to the residents, was potentially there. Three adults and two children left the home, leaving Jones there with a baby girl.

At around 8:50 a.m., Kane County SWAT made entry to the apartment and took Jones into custody without incident. The infant was in the apartment with Jones and was found uninjured. Jones will be transported to the Kane County Adult Justice Center to await extradition to Michigan.

According to police in Michigan, Jones is wanted in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Antonio Dewayne Reese-Manley, who was found dead outside a Kalamazoo apartment complex on Sept. 21. The Michigan Department of Corrections lists Jones as an "absconder from parole," saying he fled to Illinois in June. He previously served time for home invasion, weapons charges, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, according to MDOC.

Jones is facing charges of murder, two counts of felony firearm 3rd offense and possession of a firearm by a felon.
