What Percent of the Illinois State Lottery's Total Revenue Goes to School Funding?
See the Illinois Lottery's total revenue, expenses and the amount transferred to K-12 public schools since 2006.

Since its inception in 1974, the Illinois Lottery has transferred nearly $18 billion to education funding. But as the cash-strapped state struggles to fund even the bare minimum for our schools, questions from readers arose over where all the lottery money was going.
Earlier this year we compared the lottery’s school proceeds to the board of education’s total appropriations. In this analysis, we look at how these proceeds compare to the lottery’s total revenue.
Check out this interactive infographic to see the lottery’s total revenue and expenses since 2006, and how much has been transferred to the Common School Fund during that time. At the bottom of the graphic is a pie chart that shows the percent of total revenue as well as the percent of total K-12 funding.
