Could A Public Park Plaza Call South Naperville Home?

Naperville Park Board members said more discussion is needed before considering the $4.6 million idea.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A proposal for an outdoor park plaza was brought to the Naperville Park District Board meeting Thursday. The Hitchcock Design Group gave a presentation on the Frontier Sports Complex Public Plaza. Developers envision it just south of Naperville's 95th Street Library and east of Nequa Valley High School, costing as much as $4.6 million.

According to the Naperville Sun, the plans call for a band shell, playgrounds, butterfly and rain gardens, trail connections and a pond with radio-controlled model boats. An amphitheater, sculptures and more are also ideas for the space. Past projects from the Hitchcock group include Safety Town and Fort Hill Activity Center.

The Sun reported that board members asked for more discussion on the matter. There will be another presentation in the Naperville Public Library Board meeting Thursday. It begins at 7 p.m. in the Nichols Library board room.
