NAPERVILLE, IL — Students in Indian Prairie School District 204 will attend school full-time with "pre-pandemic hours" and lunch times resuming in fall 2021.

District 204 Superintendent Dr. Adrian Talley outlined the plans at Monday's board of education meeting. Talley noted that the current plans are "general in nature, so that families know what to expect." More information will be available at the June 14 board meeting, Talley added.

To help prevent the spread of coronavirus, masks will be required and students will need to maintain at least six feet of social distance from one another at lunch and three feet of social distance from one another while in class.

Remote learning will be available for students who have a "medical condition," Talley said. The district will employ separate teachers for remote and in-person instruction. Details on remote learning will also be made available June 14.

Ahead of the June 14 board meeting, two separate groups of parents will review the 2021-22 plans for district 204's pre-kindergarten and elementary schools and its middle and high schools.

During the meeting, Talley acknowledged that guidance from Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) may change with the shifting nature of the coronavirus pandemic. "As things change at the state level, we will update accordingly," Talley said.

District 204 resumed five days of in-person instruction for its students shortly after spring break, with the district's middle and high school students attending class for partial days.

The 2021-22 plans Talley outlined align with recent guidance from ISBE, which unanimously approved a resolution that requires schools to resume full, in-person instruction come fall. As of May 20, Illinois students and teachers will still be required to mask up and practice social distancing, per the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
