NAPERVILLE, IL — Edward-Elmhurst Health is donating thousands of respirators, gowns and other personal protective equipment to India to help the country as it faces surging numbers of coronavirus cases and deaths.

On Saturday, a truck left Edward Hospital in Naperville stocked to the brim with 6,000 N95 respirators, 3,500 isolation gowns and 72,000 exam gloves. The items will be sent to India with the help of the National Council of Asian Indian Association and the National India Hub, according Edward-Elmhurst Health spokesperson Keith Hartenberger.

Once the personal protective equipment arrives overseas, it will be distributed to hospitals in rural India, along with schools and community centers that are serving as makeshift coronavirus camps to offer care to patients.
