Flood Warning In Effect Across Naperville, More Rain On The Way
Most of the Naperville area saw at least 2.5 inches of rain over the past two days.
NAPERVILLE, IL — Several areas throughout Naperville are flooded due to at least 2.5 inches of rainfall recorded since Monday, April 29, according to the City of Naperville. A flood warning is in effect until 1 p.m. Friday, May 3, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), as even more rain is expected across the area until Friday.
Because of this, the City of Naperville is encouraging residents to use caution around floodwaters and monitor the online Waze map for updates on road closures.
In a release, the City also reminds residents to take the following precautions during periods of excessive rainfall:

- Stay out of all flood waters; trying to navigate the fast-moving, debris-filled flood waters can lead to risky rescue situations and tragic circumstances.
- Do not consume anything exposed to flood water, and keep flood water out of your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Move to high ground if you find yourself in an area where flooding is occurring.
- Do not attempt to drive on a flooded road, even if the water appears to be shallow.
- Do not push your vehicle out of the water. If it is stuck, get out and find higher ground.
- Do not park near a stream, river or place that could easily flood.
- Make a plan in case your home or business floods.
According to the NWS, flood warnings have been issued for several rivers, including Little Calumet River in South Holland; Des Plaines River in Riverside; Vermilion River near Leonore and Pontiac; Mazon River near Coal City; DuPage River near Plainfield and near Warrenville; Kankakee River near Momence; and Fox River near Algonquin.

During this period of heavy rainfall, the Naperville Park District advises residents to use caution around flooded areas, to stay off an away from the DuPage River as the water level continues to rise and the current is moving very fast. The DuPage River poses a potential danger to anyone who wades in or ventures near it, according to the Naperville Park District.
