Happy Hour For Naperville? Not This Time

Naperville happy hour laws remain the same after a local restaurant owner asked to have the rules relaxed.

NAPERVILLE, IL — The town's long-standing happy hour ban will remain intact, for now. A restaurant owner revived the conversation to relax the laws in Thursday afternoon's liquor commission meeting, according to a City of Naperville clerk. The current commission supports Naperville's history with strict alcohol rules, as indicated by its "no" vote to amend the municipal code.

According to the Naperville Sun, the owner of the Old Town Pour House, which boasts the western suburbs' largest beer list, brought up the possibility of lifting the prohibition with Mayor Steve Chirico so it could stay competitive with surrounding businesses. The Sun also reports no one from the Pour House or any other bar or restaurant in Naperville, attended the meeting to provide input.

The laws prohibit bars from allowing new patrons to enter or re-enter an hour before closing time, nor will it serve shots during that time. Ladies nights or any other exclusionary specials are non-existent. Any "happy hour" drink specials must be offered all day, for a limited amount of days, and must be advertised ahead of time. Industry workers serving alcohol within city limits must attend a special training.
