Investigation Continues Into Fatal Traffic Crash On Naper Boulevard

The initial investigation indicated that the Volkswagen struck the pedestrian, who was changing a flat tire.

On Friday, Sept. 25, 2020 at approximately 3:26 p.m., the Naperville Police Department and the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department responded to the area of Naper Boulevard south of Plank Road for the report of a vehicle crash involving injuries. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that a 2008 Silver Volkswagen Rabbit, driven by a 23-year-old male out of Naperville, collided with a 28-year-old male pedestrian, from Naperville, in the southbound, curbed lane of Naper Boulevard. The initial investigation indicated that the Volkswagen struck the pedestrian, who was changing a flat tire.

The pedestrian was transported to Edward Hospital with life threatening injuries. He was pronounced deceased soon after arriving at the hospital. Due to the nature of the incident, members of the Naperville Traffic Unit trained in accident investigation and reconstruction responded to the scene. Naper Boulevard was closed from Plank Road to Chicago Avenue, and traffic was rerouted until the roadway was reopened at approximately 7:16 p.m.

The crash investigation is still on-going.
