Laced Gummy Bears That Sickened Students Were Homemade: Police
Police believe the gummy bears contained cannabis.

NAPERVILLE, IL — The Naperville Police Department said it believes the laced gummy bears that made several Naperville North students sick were homemade.
While police are still awaiting lab results, they also believe the gummy bears contained a form of cannabis. It is unknown how many gummies each student ate.
Police are urging parents to reinforce with their children the importance of only accepting unopened candy or other forms of food or drinks from individuals they know and trust.

A 17-year-old student has been taken into custody in relation to the incident, police said, and they are following up on the potential involvement of a few other students.
Naperville School District 203 spokeswoman Michelle Fregoso said the candy made students “uncomfortable and sick” and were taken to the nurse’s office. While 14 students were taken to the hospital, Fregoso said the district can confirm 12 were treated as a result of consuming the gummy bears.

Edward Hospital spokesman Keith Hartenberger said students were treated at the emergency room for symptoms including fast heart rate, dizziness and dry mouth.
All students have since been released.
