Lightning Starts House Fire In Naperville

The house was deemed uninhabitable

Lightning caused a house fire in Naperville early on Monday morning, according to the Naperville Fire Department. Just before 4:30 a.m. a homeowner on the 1500 block of Ada Lane called 911 to report a lightning strike and smoke in their attic.

The first crew arrived in seven minutes, and later found a fire on the roof. Firefighters brought hoses inside and extinguished the fire within ten minutes of arriving at the scene. A city inspector determined that the house was uninhabitable.

There were no injuries reported.

According to the National Weather Service, lightning starts "about 4,400 house fires each year, costing somewhere around $283 million in damages."
