Update: Man Shoots Former Roommate In Head, Crashes During Pursuit: Aurora Police
Police have identified a suspect in a shooting and vehicle pursuit on Saturday
Aurora Police said John W. Speery shot a man and led them on a 14-minute car chase that exceeded 70 miles per hour at times. The 55-year-old from Aurora faces multiple charges.
Around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, Speery drove a 1988 Cadillac Brougham to the home of a 56-year-old former roommate on the 300 block of Jackson Place and shot the man in the neck with a handgun, according to police .
Speery drove off in his Cadillac, but officers saw him near Ohio and Grove Streets and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. He fled from police, who unsuccessfully deployed stop sticks to deflate Sperry's tires.

The pursuit went through the city’s east and northeast sides, and Speery eventually crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Claim Street and Lincoln Avenue, police said. He was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries , and the victim was also taken to a different hospital. The victim remains in stable condition and is expected to survive, according to police.
Speery has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated fleeing and eluding police. He was held in the Kane County Correctional Center on $500,000 bail.

Police said the incident seems to have stemmed from a personal dispute.
