Naperville Apartment Fire Caused By Overheated Appliance
The fire occurred just after noon on Thursday

The Naperville Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on the 700 block of Inland Circle on Thursday, according to a department press release. The fire was reported via 911 at 12:19 p.m. and the first crew was at the scene in six minutes. They found a smoke coming from a three-story apartment building.
Firefighters found a fire in the kitchen of one unit and extinguished the fire within ten minutes. Crews determined that there were no residents home in the apartment where the fire occurred, and firefighters evacuated other residents of the building. Fire investigators determined that the fire was caused by an overheated appliance. The unit was deemed uninhabitable by city inspectors. There were no injures reported.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking equipment was the leading cause of home structure fires in the last few years. Unattended cooking equipment and frying foods were leading contributing factors in cooking fires.
