Naperville Arrest Totals For Holiday DUI Enforcement Period

Police have released the numbers of arrests and citations over the holidays.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Police have released the results from their most recent "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, which took place Dec. 18 through the early morning hours of Jan. 2. Three arrests were made for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said Wednesday.

“It should come as no surprise to any driver that drunk driving is illegal and punishable by arrest and significant fines,” said Naperville Police Sgt. Derek Zook. “The actions of those who choose to drive impaired are selfish," he added.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports 37,461 people died in 2016 from traffic crashes, and 28 percent of those fatalities were in cases that involved at least one impaired driver whose blood-alcohol concentration was at or above the .08 limit.

Over the enforcement period, police issued 30 citations for not wearing seat belts, 10 for speeding, three for uninsured motorists and one for a suspended or revoked driver's license.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement effort was made possible with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, according to Naperville Police.
