Naperville Central Student Brought Unloaded Gun To School

District 203 student's punishment is unknown at this time.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A two-year expulsion is one option school officials can use to discipline a Naperville Central High School student who brought an unloaded handgun to school Tuesday. The student was acting suspicious that day, according to a statement from Naperville School District 203. That statement reads, “Through the collaborative effort between an observant teacher, school dean, school resource officer and the Naperville Police Department, we were able to quickly determine that there was no danger to students or staff.”

School personnel cannot give out much more information due to student privacy laws, according to an update on the district's web site. The district’s director of communications, Michelle Fregoso, told the Naperville Sun Wednesday that students in grades 6 through 12 were required to sign a waiver saying they understood the discipline policy.

The school district’s statement calls the incident “unacceptable and expressly prohibited.” No ammunition was found.
