Naperville Fire Leaves Minimal Damage Thanks To Quick Thinking

Employees at a 5th & Mill repair shop acted quickly to the fire, resulting in minimal damage.

NAPERVILLE, IL — An electric fire in a Naperville repair shop caused minimal damage Friday afternoon, thanks to quick thinking from employees and dispatchers. Just after one o'clock, an alarm prompted an engine to check the scene at the 5th & Mill Business Center. When it arrived at the 600 block of W. 5th Avenue, they confirmed the fire was in a painting area in the repair shop and upgraded the response to a general alarm assignment. Twenty-five personnel came in driving engines, trucks, ambulances and an alternative response vehicle.

They found heavy smoke coming from the roof and front door. According to a press release from the Naperville Fire Department, an officer reported a fire in the duct of a painting booth. Crews responded aggressively and the fire was out within 20 minutes. They stuck around for another hour and a half to help salvage and clean up.

Luckily, the employees manually activated a fire suppression system, which kept it from getting worse. Fire officials say the damage was minimal due to the quick actions of the dispatch center and the employees. There are no reported injuries.
