NAPERVILLE, IL — Naperville is mourning the loss of former Mayor Margaret "Peg " Price. Price, who was elected as the city's first female mayor in 1983, died Sunday at St. Patrick's Residence, according to Positively Naperville. She was 87 years old.

In a post on Facebook, The Rotary Club of Naperville wrote that Price was also one of the first two women who joined the rotary club in 1987. They wrote, "We celebrate the impact she has had on our community as a leader and role model. Peg truly lived by the Rotary words “Service Above Self."

According to Naperville Magazine, Price served two terms as mayor of Naperville. She then went on to serve on the Naperville City Council.

Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico said in a statement,

"Naperville was changed for the better under the leadership of former Mayor Peg Price, whose leadership, influence and determination shaped our City during a time of rapid change.
Mayor Price will always hold the title of being Naperville’s first female Mayor, and her legacy of strong leadership and decision-making lives on through what she accomplished. From spearheading the construction of the current Municipal Center to expanding the City Council from 4 to 6 members during her administration, she never shied away from a challenge.
Although Mayor Price may have seen Naperville grow by leaps and bounds under her watch, she never lost sight of what mattered to her: seeing her City be a place where families came first, and people looked out for each other. On behalf of my wife Julie and our entire family, we send our condolences to Mayor Price’s family today as they mourn their loss.”
