Naperville Preparing for Cubs World Series Trophy Visit

Doors will open early on Saturday for the thousands of fans expected

Doors at Naperville City Hall will open at 7 a.m. on Saturday, four hours before the Cubs 2016 World Series Trophy will be unveiled in the hall's Council Chambers. There will be a sign outside directing fans where to line up if they want to arrive before the building opens.

“We are expecting thousands of people to come out,” Linda LaCloche, Naperville Communications Manager, said in a phone interview on Wednesday.

LaCloche said city staff, including police, fire, transportation and public works personnel are preparing for the trophy's arrival.

City staff plan to bring as many fans as possible into City Hall to minimize the number of people waiting in the cold. The Weather Channel has forecast a low temperature of 4 degrees with winds of 13 miles per hour for Saturday. Any early arriving fans will be in the dark; sunrise isn't until 7:20 a.m.

Cubs personnel will bring the trophy into the 300-seat Council Chambers just before 11 a.m.

Fans will have the chance to pass off their phones to get a quick picture with the trophy, and team personnel will be moving people along to keep the line flowing.

The following parking information was announced in a press release: "Fans and visitors can park at the Municipal Center Parking Facility. Please note that entrance to this deck will only be allowed from Eagle Street, with all exits directed onto Webster Street. Overflow parking is available at the new Water Street Parking Facility located at 120 Water Street or any of the other downtown parking decks or lots. Accessible parking is available in all of the parking lots and parking decks throughout downtown Naperville. For more information on downtown parking, visit www.naperville.il.us/downtownparking."

For those disappointed that the trophy will only be in Naperville for two hours, LaCloche said that was all the time the Cubs would allow. She said other cities on the trophy tour, such as Schaumburg and Rockford, were planning two hour long trophy viewings as well.

If you can't make it to Naperville, the trophy will also be in Schaumburg on Monday, January 9 at the Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The City of Naperville is simply hosting the trophy viewing, which will be run by the Cubs. Questions about the event can be referred to Chicago Cubs Fan Services at (773) 388-8270.
