NAPERVILLE, IL -- After 30 years in Naperville, the School of Performing Arts has suddenly shut its doors for good. The news comes after a lawsuit was filed in January by the school's landlord that claimed the school owed more than $4 million in rent, Chicago Tribune reports.
Parents of children involved in classes at the School of Performing Arts were notified of the art school's abrupt closure via an email from founder and executive director Barbara Yokom. Yokom said the building's owners, Cedar Street Capital IV, were "no longer willing to negotiate" amid the ongoing financial battle, leaving School of Performing Arts with "only one option."
The school reportedly making rent payments in November 2018 on its 15-year lease with Cedar Street Capital IV. The lawsuit was ultimately settled out of court after the School of Performing Arts agreed to pay $2.45 million to its landlords.
