Naperville Warns Of Possible Flooding As DuPage River Rises
Residents were also warned to stay off the river, which had risen "well over its banks."

NAPERVILLE, IL — The city of Naperville alerted residents Saturday to possible flooding as DuPage River levels continue to rise and more rainfall is anticipated. In a press release, city officials warned of "possible flooding conditions for downtown Naperville, and residential areas downstream of the river near downtown until Monday, May 18."
Sandbags and sand have been made available to residents in case of flooding. Residents who need sand can go to Riverview Court, off Hillside Road and just east of Washington, where they can fill up and take sandbags.
Residents are advised to bring a shovel to fill the provided bags and to wear a cloth face mask.

The city also advised residents on measures to help them stay safe in case of flooding, including to:
- Be cautious of cords and electrical equipment that might be in an area that can flood
- Stay out of flood waters
- Avoid skin contact with flood waters, which might be contaminated
- Avoid eating anything that has come into contact with flood water
- Move to high ground if you are in an area that is flooding
- Avoid driving on a flooded road
- Avoid parking near a river, stream or other body of water that may flood
- Avoid pushing a car that has become stuck in water
City officials said the river had risen "well over its banks" as of Saturday afternoon and was moving swiftly. Residents were advised to stay off the river.
