No Beer Or Wine At Naperville Gas Stations: Commission Rejects Request

The owners of two stores requested a rule change that would allow them to sell beer and wine

On Thursday, the Naperville Liquor Commission has rejected a request to allow convenience stores to carry beer and wine, according to the Naperville Sun.

The request was made by the owners of a BP gas station, at the intersection of Brookdale Road and Route 59, and a Pride convenience store, under construction at Ogden Avenue and Raymond Drive. They argued that allowing small stores in Naperville to sell alcohol would give them an advantage over establishments in nearby towns cannot sell alcohol.

"We can't vote on things based upon the economic impact of the city or a business," Mayor Steve Chirico said at the meeting. "This is not about winners or losers. Our job is to ensure a safe environment." Chirico heads the eight-person board, which voted unanimously to reject any changes in Naperville's alcohol ordinances.
