Rep. Peter Roskam Holding Phone Town Hall on Monday

"I have no plans to have one of these big sort of circus meetings," Roskam said on a WGN radio show on Sunday

Congressman Peter Roskam will be holding a telephone town hall meeting on Monday evening. Roskam made the announcement on WGN's Sunday Spin (discussion of meeting starts at 44:00).

The Republican congressman from Wheaton said he has held only one town hall meeting and he didn’t find it to be “particularly productive.”

“Town hall meetings tend to be platforms for people to shout at one another and get angry at one another,” Roskam said. He noted that in 2016, he held 30 roundtable discussions and 11 telephone town hall meetings, which usually have about 10,000 people on the call. Roskam said he expects more on Monday night.

“I have no plans to have one of these big sort of circus meetings,” Roskam said.

Roskam recently rejected a request by the League of Women Voters to hold a public forum, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Last week about 400 people protested Roskam as he met with a group in Palatine. Some constituents have expressed disappointment over Roskam's support of the president's executive orders on immigration.

Roskam represents the Illinois 6th Congressional district, which includes Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove, Lisle, northeastern Naperville, Barrington and Palatine.
