Sentencing Set for Former Hollywood Palms Owner Convicted of Fraud, Tax Evasion

The Woodridge man, who has been free on bail since 2014, underreported his Naperville and Woodridge cinemas' sales by about $18 million.

A local man who is the former owner of Hollywood Palms cinema in Naperville and its sister theater, Hollywood Blvd. in Woodridge, will be sentenced in October for his neglect to report around $18 million in sales over several years.

Edwin C. "Ted" Bulthaup, 59, of Woodridge is facing up to 15 years in prison for tax evasion and up to seven years behind bars for fraud, according to a Daily Herald report. He will be sentenced on Oct. 26.

"Bulthaup pleaded guilty to the charges during a July hearing in which Illinois attorney general's office prosecutors agreed to dismiss 104 additional counts of wire fraud," the story said.

Investigators traced the millions of dollars in underreported sales to the period between 2009 and 2013.

Bulthaup owned the theaters until February 2014, "when agents searched his businesses and seized records and computer information," the Daily Herald story said.
