Smoke Detectors Save Family From House Fire In Naperville
Fire officials say smoke detectors alerted the home's three residents to the blaze early Monday.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville family has working smoke detectors to thank for alerting them to a fire that broke out in their two-story home early Monday. The fire started just after 3 a.m. in the 1700 block of Roberts Lane.
When fire crews got to the scene, they encountered heavy smoke on the first floor of the residence and heavy fire in the back of the home. Firefighters first attacked the blaze from outside before advancing into the home. Once inside, they found and extinguished fire that was still burning in the joists of the home's first floor.
In total, it took 20 minutes for firefighters to put out the blaze. All three residents were displaced from the home by the fire, which fire officials say was caused by smoking materials that were disposed of improperly.
