Striding For Strays

Local animal shelter holding their 28th annual walkathon as virtual event

NAPERVILLE, April 27, 2021- On May 2nd, you can take a walk to not only improve your life, but to help improve the lives of animals.

For the past 28 years, A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter has held their Makin’ Strides for Strays Walkathon in downtown Naperville. This event has long been a favorite with the community to gather with their dogs and raise much needed funds for homeless animals while enjoying a great day out. The walkathon is a key fundraiser for the shelter in their mission to provide care for animals while they wait for their forever homes.

Due to COVID-19 and the current restrictions on public gatherings, this event will be a virtual one this year.

A.D.O.P.T. is encouraging people to take a walk with their pets on Sunday May 2nd in support of the shelter. Walkers can raise funds for the shelter by setting up their own fundraising page through the shelter’s website. The goal for the fundraiser this year is to raise $50,000.

The shelter will be posting videos and updates throughout the event to make this a fun and interactive experience for everyone. They are also encouraging any walkers to post videos or photos of their walk using the hashtag #VirtualStrides2021.

About A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter: Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment (A.D.O.P.T.) is a private, “no-kill”, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has found homes for more than 20,000 pets. We provide a temporary, loving home for dogs and cats that no longer have a family of their own. The animals in our shelter have ended up here for a variety of reasons ranging from abandonment, to rescue from an abusive situation, to owner surrender because they no longer are able to take care of them. Our animals are loving, family pets who are desperately waiting for their forever home.

A.D.O.P.T. was founded in 1989 by a group of dedicated volunteers determined to find homes for animals in need. Over the years, our objective has remained the same: to place animals into permanent, caring homes and advance the humane treatment of animals through education.

A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter is located at 420 Industrial Drive, Naperville IL 60563.
