Patch: How long have you been doing business in town or how long has the organization you represent been around in the community?
Find out what's happening in Palosfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Wiersma: Always Ready Repair has been serving south Chicagoland and the surrounding suburbs since 1935. The business originated in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago but has operated out of Palos Park for almost two decades now!
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you're in, or how did you get started?
Wiersma: Always Ready Repair has been a family-owned and -operated business since its inception in 1935. My grandfather, John Wiersma, established the business and infused it with principles of honesty, hard work and quality workmanship. My father, Mick Wiersma, became the second owner and proudly built on the solid foundation that his father had laid. I proudly joined the ranks of the family business when I was just a young boy. I wanted to follow in my grandfather and father's footsteps and not only help others but solve the often-complex mechanical puzzles in order to do so. I work hard every day to make my customers happy and to honor the family legacy that precedes me.
Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
Wiersma: Family, community, integrity, honesty, quality.
Patch: What's the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you've faced in your job.
Wiersma: The biggest challenge is that in an ever-changing and complex industry, I strive to remain educated on all the information I need to ensure that my customers can maximize comfort and efficiency in their homes. A few things that both myself and the entire Always Ready team are constantly working on are the following: staying up to date on EPA regulations and energy codes, being cognizant of rebates and other savings that can be offered to the customer, familiarizing ourselves with the best and most-efficient equipment. We want to stay current to give our customers the best overall experience when they deal with our company!
Patch: What's the most satisfying part of your job?
Wiersma: This is easy: customer service. When you welcome me into your home, I feel a deep sense of pride in performing good-quality work. Helping people solve problems, keeping them comfortable and improving their indoor air quality are my goals for every visit. Although I learned long ago that you can't make everyone happy, I guarantee that it is not for lack of trying!
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from others?
Wiersma: First and foremost, we focus on quality, not quantity. We aim to get the job done right the first time, and we guarantee our work. We consistently offer employee training and continuing education on products and services. We feel that staying up to date on equipment and techniques helps us achieve the best end result.
Patch: What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given when it comes to success?
Wiersma: I was both taught and shown to do good work and never take the easy road. I like the quote, "Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it." Success is a relative term, but at the end of the day I find success when I have worked hard to do right by my customers.
Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you're working on that you're extra excited about?
Wiersma: Right now, we are installing Mitsubishi pro heat systems in a 16-unit condominium building. The technology and innovation behind the Mitsubishi product lines make them products I am proud to install. They offer energy-efficient options for both heat and cooling that are price-conscious and conservative on space. I am so happy to be installing these innovative systems into this building.
Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community?
Wiersma: We are so proud to be working on an endeavor that could help some wonderful organizations in the communities where we work. We have partnered with Helping Out Locally to launch our initiative of Always Ready Repair Gives Back. We chose three not-for-profit organizations that we as a company are passionate about. If you visit our website, you can learn more about and vote for one of these fantastic organizations. While all three nonprofits will receive a cash prize, the one with the most votes on our website will be awarded $1,000.
