Bethany attends Trust-Based Relational Intervention Training
Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) Training –Bethany Christian Services staff awarded a scholarship to attend TBRI training

According to Dr. Karyn Purvis, “When you connect to the heart of a child, everything is possible.” Dr. Purvis is the co-creator of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® and a passionate and effective advocate for children. Among academics, she is a respected researcher, demonstrating how a child’s behavior, neurochemistry and life trajectory can change given the right environment.
Rebecca MacDougall, Executive Director of Bethany Christian Services and Janet Yelovich, a counselor at Bethany earned a scholarship from …… The scholarship granted them the opportunity to earn a certification in TBRI. As a result of successfully completing the training and passing the exam, they are able to provide counseling services applying TBRI practices in their counseling sessions.
TBRI is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable and at-risk children. For example, some children and youth who have experienced foster care or orphanage-rearing may have experienced complex developmental trauma, demonstrating an interactive set of psychological and behavioral issues. TBRI is a therapeutic model that trains caregivers to provide effective support and treatment for at-risk children. TBRI has been applied in orphanages, courts, residential treatment facilities, group homes, foster and adoptive homes, churches, and schools. It has been used effectively with children and youth of all ages and all risk levels.

TBRI uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI is connection.
Dr. Purvis once told an interviewer, “If I could tell you my dream for every child in the world it would be to imagine a world where the cry of every child is met by a loving compassionate adult.” MacDougall and Yelovich at Bethany Christian Services share this dream. Both have demonstrated their commitment to continually stay informed on effective counseling methodology. Should you find that your family is in need of counseling, please call to make an appointment with Janet Yelovich at (708) 385-4889.
