Cyclones dedicate new baseball field

Years of a flooded outfield and unplayable conditions are all distant memories. The Cyclones officially christened their new ballfield.

Years of a flooded outfield and unplayable conditions are all distant memories. The Cyclones officially christened their new digs in a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 4.

It was damp and cloudy, but that didn't diminish the excitement of celebration around the new baseball field. Construction started in summer 2020, and the Cyclones were able to officially compete by mid-April. The college officially celebrated the renovated diamond this month.

"I am thrilled to give our athletes a playable home field on our campus. For the last few years, the team has been traveling to a field in Chicago for home games because of the condition of our field. However, the upgrades we have made will eliminate the flooding problems of the past and provide our baseball team a top-notch facility to get that W at home," college president Dr. Sylvia Jenkins said during her remarks.

College board members, employees and the entire baseball team were in attendance along with special guests, longtime former baseball Head Coach Al Budding and his former player/alumnus and current Reavis athletic director, Bob Morack. They indulged in a brief ceremony on the field complete with Cracker Jack boxes as a giveaway.

"The field looks wonderful. We needed that on campus, and this is a big, big deal. It'll bring in players and make a difference in our program moving forward," said Cyclone Head Coach Hugh Dennehy.
