Wear a Bear Hide or Stay Inside to Beat Dangerously Cold Air

Wind-chill advisory in effect until noon Monday. Wind chill can cause frostbite on exposed skin in 30 minutes.

A wind chill advisory went into effect at 9 p.m. Sunday and runs through noon Monday as a polar air mass blows through northern Illinois, sending wind-chill values to 30 below zero.

The coldest wind chills will hit the Chicago area at 6 a.m. Monday. Skin exposed to the cold air can become frostbitten within 30 minutes, the National Weather Service advises. Over the next day, there is a significant danger of hypothermia, and people are advised to wear gloves and hats.

Or a bear hide if you happen to have one lying around. You might also try growing a thick beard in the next 12 hours.
