
Died peacefully at home, June 1, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 29, 1926 in Chicago, IL., the son of the late John Wesley and Margaret [Kane] Diamond. He was preceded in death by the love of life of 68 years, Rosemary [Wright] Diamond. He and Rosemary cofounded Birthright of Chicago in 1970, assisting thousands of women in crisis pregnancy.
He was a 1943 graduate of Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, IL, the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana in 1947, and Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine in 1949.
He practiced pediatrics for over 60 years on the Southside of Chicago as a sole practitioner. He was a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and the Past Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Diamond held Presidential positions at the Catholic Physician's Guild, the Illinois Academy of Pediatrics, the World Federation of Doctors Who Respect Life, the Calumet Branch of Chicago Medical Society, St. Francis Hospital Medical Staff, the National Federation of Catholic Physicians' Guilds, and the Illinois Family Institute. Dr. Diamond was a Distinguished Fellow of The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity. He received various honors and awards, including Pediatrician of the Year-Illinois Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics, in 1980; and the Summerhill Award from Birthright International in 1995. An accomplished author, Dr. Diamond published several books, including The Large Family: A Blessing and a Challenge, A Child of the Depression, Passion of a Believer, and A Catholic Guide to Medical Ethics, as well as many articles and monographs .

He is survived by his loving children, Eugene (Mary), Peter, M.D. (Jeanne), Mary Beth Evans (Rich), Terrence, M.D., Hon. Brian (Lourdes), Sean, M.D. (Carmel), Moira Daly (John), Sheila, Erin O’Sullivan (Mike), Meg Enright (Brian), Tim (Sharon), Mark, D.O., (Maribeth), Brigid Hansen (Mike). He is survived by 72 loving grandchildren and 36 even more loving great-grandchildren.
