Fake Customer Service Rep Scams Palos Resident Out Of $100

The resident thought they were actually calling a legitimate toll-free number and talking to a customer service rep for QuickPay, cops said.

PALOS HILLS, IL — A Palos Hills resident was scammed out of $100 by a fake QuickPay representative, reports said.

Palos Hills police went to investigate a deceptive practice report around 3 p.m. Feb. 22 in the 10000 block of South Hill Terrace. The resident wad looking up a customer service phone number for QuickPay, a person-to-person payment service that lets users send and receive money from anyone with a U.S. bank account using an email address or mobile number.

The customer representative instructed the resident to pay $100 to an online account. Later, the resident discovered the that the phone number and customer service representative was not associated with QuickPay. The resident was out $100.
