Getting The Groceries: Services Available In Palos
We asked around the community to see how residents of the Palos Area are managing to get their groceries in times of social distancing.

PALOS, IL — It's now been about one month since Governor J.B. Pritzker shut down restaurant dining rooms, schools closed down their classrooms and companies sent their employees home to begin working remotely. Fortunately, the run on toilet paper seems to have come to an end- but some residents, especially those who are members of more vulnerable populations, are still struggling to find a safe and convenient way to shop for groceries.
Here's a list of grocery delivery services we've heard about from Palos residents:
- Leave It To Us Fee Free Senior Shoppers - This organization, founded by University of Alabama student and Orland Park resident Michael Arundel, provides grocery and pharmacy shopping services free of charge to local seniors by volunteer shoppers. Orders are paid for upon delivery. You can visit their website for ordering information.
- Oberweis Home Delivery - North Aurora-based Oberweis Dairy has much more than milk and ice cream to offer. In addition to their renowned dairy products, Oberweis offers various different meats, snacks and beverages for delivery. You can sign up using this link to receive a free porch box, 25% off and free delivery credits to cover six months of service.
- Instacart - This popular grocery delivery service allows you to fill your virtual shopping cart from the couch. Freelance drivers will go to the store of your choice, shop your order and bring it to your doorstep. You can place an order on their website.
- DoorDash - In addition to delivering food from local restaurants, this service also offers grocery delivery from Jewel-Osco and Walmart. Like Instacart, DoorDash will assign your order to a freelance courier who will shop and deliver your order to your front door. You can sign up using this link to receive a $15 credit towards your order.
