Injured Cyclones tough out Skyway race, Olivia Wrobel earns honor

The Cyclones culminated their shortened season by hosting a pared down Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference championship race on campus Oct. 24. With the entire team battling injuries, they ran hard, and freshman Olivia Wrobel (Richards) earned All-Conference honors.
All the Cyclones had either just come back from injury or were dealing with pain the morning of the race. Wrobel hadn’t run the preceding week due to injury and could barely warm up, making her accomplishment all the more impressive. She crossed the line in 24:57 to seal a 10th place overall finish. Only the top 10 earn conference honors and a medal.
Eisenhower grad Jasmeene Guido (25:17, 11th) and Sandburg product Stephanie Tuscher (26:27, 12th) ran their fastest times of the season on a challenging course. Sandburg alum Jaime Funk (26:54, 14th) had been dealing with pain all season and barely missed a season personal best in this race.

“I’m proud of the women for their performances. They really toughed it out and ran the best they could. It was nice to see Olivia clinch an All-Conference spot, but they all put in great effort,” said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas.
