Kansas City Royals Draft Palos Park Native In Round Four

The 21 year-old Illini second baseman from Palos Park was the 109th overall pick in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

PALOS PARK, IL — The Kansas City Royals selected Palos Park native Michael Massey in the fourth round of Tuesday's draft. The University of Illinois junior second baseman and 2016 Brother Rice alum was the 109th overall pick, making him the highest drafted infielder in the university's history.

"It was pretty surreal to be picked in the MLB draft," Massey said. "Just to hear my name called with so many other great players is an unbelievable feeling".

Massey receives the Rawlings Gold Glove Award

Throughout his collegiate career, Massey was a .324 hitter in 159 games. As a sophomore in 2018, he was awarded the Rawlings Gold Glove Award., according to his profile on the school's baseball roster.

Massey plans to travel down to Kansas City's spring training facility in Arizona in the coming days to begin the onboarding process.
