Lamb Chop and Mallory Lewis To Perform ‘Wooly’ Good Show At MVCC

Jump, dance and sing along at 'A Lamb Chop Celebration' featuring Shari Lewis' daughter this Saturday, Oct. 13, at Moraine Valley.

PALOS HILLS, IL -- Whether you were a kid recovering from a tonsillectomy and watching her on TV from a hospital bed in 1963, or a preschooler in the 1990s driving your parents crazy singing ‘The Song That Never Ends’ -- Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop have left a legacy that has endured for over six decades.

This Saturday, Oct. 13, Moraine Valley Community College presents “A Lamb Chop Celebration” at the Dorothy Menker Theater, starring Lewis’s daughter Mallory and the spunky sock puppet Lamb Chop. The performance starts at 3 p.m., inside the Dorothy Menker Theater. Tickets are $30; $25 for seniors and free for children. This performance was specially chosen for the 25th anniversary of the college’s Fine and Performing Arts Center.

Shari Lewis left us too soon when she passed away at age 65 in 1998. The beloved entertainer’s daughter Mallory Lewis and her “sister” Lamb Chop have been touring the country performing a high-energy show that resonates with young children and seniors alike. “A Lamb Chop Celebration” is a medley of the past and present with vintage footage of Shari and Lamb Chop through the last six decades accompanied by stories previously unknown to the public, plus singing, dancing and comedy for kids of all ages.

“Showing and sharing these videos makes the audience so happy,” Lewis said. “They wish mom was still there to perform for them as I do. In the videos everyone gets to see the ‘Shari’ they remember from the ponytail in the ´50s and the shag in the ´60s to the ´70s flip, the ´80s cap and the ´90s curl. What woman can’t trace her history through her hairdos?”

An author who has penned 20 children’s novels and is a multiple Emmy Award nominee and winner for Outstanding Writing in a Children’s Series, Lewis loves to have children participate in her show. “Oh goodness, yes, I have kids on stage. I can’t do the show without them. I could—but it’s way more fun with little folks up there with me,” she said.

The award-winning show has been recognized for excellence by the International Puppeteers Association and Kids First, a coalition for quality children’s media.

“The Fine and Performing Arts Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and Lamb Chop is celebrating her 60th. It’s going to be a whopper of a party,” Lewis said.

Tickets to “A Lamb Chop Celebration” can be purchased online or by calling Moraine Valley Fine and Performing Arts Center box office at 708-974-5500. The Dorothy Menker Theater is located on Moraine Valley’s Palos Hills campus at 9000 College Parkway.
