Mailboxes Tampered With, Contents Stolen In Palos Park

Palos Park police are investigating several reports of damaged mailboxes and stolen mail in residential neighborhoods.

PALOS PARK, IL — Palos Park police are following up on several reports of tampering and stolen mail from residents’ mailboxes on Jan. 7.

Several residential mailboxes were found open with items taken from them. Thieves apparently rifled through mailboxes in the area west of 80th Avenue and east of Wolf Road, police said.

Officers also found a box discarded on Wolf Road addressed to an Orland Park resident. Police believe the contents of the box were stolen.

Residents are asked to be vigilant and watch the mailboxes on their street. Should home security video show suspicious persons and/or vehicles rummaging through mailboxes, call the Palos Park Police Department at 708-448-2191.

Clearly U.S. Postal Service staff and the homeowner are the only ones that should be going into someone’s mailbox.

Police do not have a suspect in custody at this time. Residents can can mail theft, tampering and vandalism complaints online at U.S. Postal Inspection Service or call 877-876-2455.
