After planning to start their season in January instead of November, the Moraine Valley Community College men’s and women’s basketball seasons have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to the 2020-21 sports year, the NJCAA adjusted all team practice and competition schedules for more safety measures, which Moraine Valley followed. The college was able to successfully and safely see four teams compete this fall. Basketball and volleyball were set to officially being Jan. 4 per NJCAA protocol. However, college administration recently made the decision to cancel the basketball season for safety reasons.

“It is with a heavy heart that Moraine Valley must cancel the 2021 men’s and women’s basketball seasons. We hope for healthier days ahead,” said Bill Finn, Athletics director.

Volleyball will commence its season this month with men’s and women’s soccer still scheduled to begin in March. These three sports were moved from their original start date in August. Baseball, softball and men’s tennis are still competing this spring as per usual but with a more limited schedule as well.
