The Need for Entrepreneurship

Our Schools and Community

At the center of the American economy and drive lies a distinct set of individuals who employ risk and innovation for the betterment of people across the country: entrepreneurs. These business leaders put aside profitable careers in favor of a long journey of self-preservation and possible deprecation. Nevertheless, at the heart of entrepreneurs, rests a determination which transcends all failure and pushes them onward.

This idealistic image of an entrepreneur has seen the past thralls of the recession as this path of work has declined over the last few decades (Gallup). In particular, the most troubling of statistics rests in America's youth, primarily high school students. Their lack of opportunity and meaningful access to entrepreneurial information represents a gap in the educational systems of our community. Our communities and local schools should invest in such resources, ensuring and enabling a new generation of business innovators.

The benefits of entrepreneurship are far and wide, extending beyond the mere profit motive. The ability to plan your own hours, fulfill inventive dreams, and provide local jobs makes entrepreneurship a noble path. This translation of material knowledge to action requires the support of the local community and opportunities to engage with business leaders. Therefore, I urge business leaders to reach out and reach up to this new generation in need of mentors for their future.
