PALOS HILLS, IL — Palos Health will merge with Northwestern Medicine effective Jan. 1, 2021. The governing boards for both organizations approved the merger and agreement. Regulatory approvals have now been received, according to a news release from Northwestern Medicine.

“We look forward to welcoming Palos Health to Northwestern Medicine,” said Dean M. Harrison, president and CEO, Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. “We will join the physicians and staff of Palos Health to provide convenient access to world-class care in the southwest suburbs.”

The merger expands Northwestern Medicine’s footprint in Chicago’s south suburbs. With Palos Health joining, Northwestern Medicine will offer care across Chicago at 11 hospitals and more than 200 ambulatory sites, provided by a combined workforce of more than 36,000 physicians, nurses and staff.

“This affiliation will only serve to enhance the already excellent quality of care provided to the community by Palos Health.” said Terrence Moisan, MD, president and CEO of Palos Health. “As a part of Northwestern Medicine, we will be able to further develop and grow specialized services for our patients and community. We look forward to a bright future together.”

Palos Health was in merger talks with Loyola Medicine last year when both organizations abruptly called the merger off, without giving a reason why. Both organizations noted that their existing partnerships would continue. Loyola and Palos formed an academic clinical affiliation in 2015. Palos and Loyola's collaboration also includes several patient-care initiatives including a telestroke program, a Loyola-managed infusion center, and jointly owned ambulatory surgery and radiation oncology centers located at the Palos Health South Campus in Orland Park. Loyola physicians continue to staff those facilities.
