Palos Park Police Invite Residents for 'Burgers with the Badges'

Meet your police for a meal on Friday, August 12.

PALOS PARK, IL — Palos Park Police Chief Miller and volunteers will serve burgers to the public Friday, August 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. as a meat (see what they did there?) and greet with the officers in a non-law enforcement type setting. The goal is to communicate about different issues that affect police and the community.

The event will be held at the police department, 8999 West 123rd. St.

"The Meat (Burgers) and Greet is an important part of having a sense of community strength where our people are physically seeing our officers work for them as they do every day while also emphasizing that they are here to work with us and not against us," Miller said in a release.

Residents are invited to then spend the rest of the night on a Twitter (Virtual) Ride Along with Officer Ross Chibe throughout his patrol shift, 6 P / 6 A.

The Twitter Ride Along allows people to get a firsthand look at a night on patrol in Palos Park and be engaged in what goes on during the shift.

Residents can track crime in real time now via the department's Twitter account. Residents joining the feed will be alerted by e-mail or text message when the police update their site.

Police Commissioner Dan Polk said Twitter will allow the department to keep community members posted about events and street closures before they happen. Police can also update the page while on a crime scene. Polk said, “At the crime scene, when new information is coming out every second, it will be easier to send this information out,"
