Route 83 Open For Morning Rush Hour After Gas Line is Repaired

PALOS, IL — Nicor crews finished repairs on a damaged gas main that closed sections of shortly after midnight Thursday.

A private contractor struck a gas main around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Southwest Highway and Route 83/80th Avenue on the Palos Park-Palos Heights border.

Police and fire officials momentarily considered evacuating Manor Care Health Services-West, 11860 SW Hwy, Palos Heights, which reported natural gas particulates inside the building.

“The wind shifted and blew the particulates over an unpopulated area,” said Deputy Chief Bill Czajkowski, of the Palos Heights Police Department.
