Dozens of runners have been hitting the trails at Lake Katherine as they prepare for the non-profit park’s “Break for the Lake” race on Sunday, May 17.
Sixty competitors have already signed up for the 5K trail race, sponsored by Peace Village senior living community, which follows a scenic route around Lake Katherine taking in lake, forest and prairie.
Registration is still open for the third annual race with everyone from children to people in their 70s either running or walking depending on their fitness level.
The event entrance fee prior to the day is $25 for adults (15 years and older) and $15 for children under 14 with the race beginning at 8am. Details of how to sign up can be found on the home or events page of www.lakekatherine.org.
Proceeds from the race will go towards children’s programs, ecological restoration and animal care at Lake Katherine. The trail race course is not suitable for dogs or strollers.
