Hazardous Weather Forecast for Chicago Area
50 mile-per-hour winds, hail and heavy downpours possible as severe thunderstorms sweep into the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Weather Warning for Will, Kendall, Kane, McHenry, Lake and Cook counties Friday afternoon and evening, noting that scattered thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall in excess of an inch, possibly 2 inches, cloud-to-ground lightning, wind gusts up to 50 mph and isolated bursts of hail the size of nickels.
The storms will develop throughout the late afternoon and into the evening. “Organized severe weather is not expected,” according to the NWS, but “a few of the strongest storms during the afternoon or evening hours could produce isolated gusty winds ... and hail to nickel size.”
Some areas could see multiple rounds of heavy downpours, according to the NWS.
