With the support of many families and local businesses in the last two years, the St. Alexander 5k fundraiser has raised a total of $34,000 allowing the school to update it’s technology lab with state-of-the-art equipment along with a wireless network throughout the school and parish center.

“This year, our goal is to resurrect our Applied Tech Lab and transform it into a much needed ‘Science-Technology-Engineering-Math’ lab, commonly known as a STEM Lab,” said Principal Cathy Biel.

“We created the Applied Tech Lab 10 years ago and St. Alexander was one of the few Catholic schools in the Archdiocese that offered our students this amazing opportunity. As time has passed, however, the modules in the lab have become outdated. Luckily enough, the infrastructure is in place but the computer modules need to be replaced or updated. The cost to do this is between $50,000 and $60,000. We are dedicating the next two years to raising this money,” added Biel.

Sponsorships are also being accepted at any monetary level. A donation of $500 or more will guarantee a business logo to be imprinted on the t-shirt as well as be in all race communications.

St. Alexander's state-of-the-art computer lab is furnished with iMac computers and provides 1:1 technology for students. The school provides additional iPads for daily classroom use. Students attend class in the Computer Lab and Applied Technology Lab four times a week and utilize other types of technology in the classroom including iPads, Powerpoint presentations and Smartboards.

St. Alexander School is one of only a few schools in the Archdiocese of Chicago to offer students a cutting-edge Applied Technology Lab that provides a variety of modules exploring different subjects and topics including Science, Math and critical thinking. St. Alexander recognizes the importance technology plays in preparing students for high school, college and tomorrow's workplace.
